In support of Sigma's national philanthropy... |
| Houston
Tri-Sigmas are active participants in Sigma's' dedication to
service by continuing to support the national philanthropic
effort, Sigma Serves Children. |
| Sigma
has been serving children since 1954, through the Sigma Sigma
Sigma Foundation's Robbie Page Memorial (RPM). Following the
1951 death of Robbie Page, the son of the sorority's national
president, Sigma established the memorial as a fund for polio
research. This fund was later established as Tri-Sigma's own
social service fund and in 1956 began directing its efforts
toward the field of Play Therapy for hospitalized children. |
| Over the
past 50 years, Sigmas, collegians and alumna alike, have given
countless hours of service and generous contributions to RPM
in our effort to "make a child smile". |
| Local
efforts for RPM by Houston Sigmas include a variety of activities
such as: book drives for local children's hospitals, chapter
garage sales, book exchanges, silent auctions and generous monetary
donations by individuals and as a chapter. |

In support of Houston Sigma's local philanthropy... |
| The Houston
Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma supports the Play Therapy
Department of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center as our local philanthropy.
Throughout the year, Sigmas donate art supplies, games and toys
for the children. Dr. Martha Askins, Play Therapy Director,
has stated that our gifts make it possible for children
to have their own box of supplies. Remember what a new box of
Crayolas smelled like, and how much fun it was to have your
own new ones? We make that possible for the hospitalized children! |
